A thermal fuse is a temperature fuse that is activated in case of extreme overheating. The technology is simple and is based on solder melting at a given temperature, which then breaks the contact. Once a thermal fuse has been tripped, it cannot be reset, rather it has to be replaced. A thermal fuse is also known as a Single Operation Device (SOD).
