Switched-mode power supplies are designed for high efficiency and small size. They are designed with modern switching technology that enables high levels of efficiency. The power supplies are well suited for industrial, medtech and train environments where high demands are stipulated regarding service life, durability and performance.
The power supplies are principally available in three different form factors: Open Frame, U-Frame and Enclosed.
Safety approval such as
Open Frame
If your power supply is to be integrated into a previously sealed application, a power supply without its own cover, known as Open Frame, can be a good alternative. The components are mounted directly on the board without any protective casing, which means a slight reduction in weight. Open Frame is suitable for quiet applications where you do not want to have a fan, e.g. in medical, office or home environments.
Enclosed / Cage power supplies
Building your power supply into a cage helps to protect the internal components from external influences. The cage assembly provides protection against touching, increasing the safety of service personnel if your application needs to be opened for maintenance. If your power supply requires extra cooling, it is possible to install a fan on the cage unit.
U-Frame / Semi-open
With a U-Frame, your power supply is installed in a U-shaped metal cover. U-Frame is good when you want some protection but don’t want your power supply to be completely built in. The U-shaped design contributes to good ventilation, flexible installation options and also serves as a good heat sink for heat-generating components.
