Waveguides are structures designed for conducting electromagnetic waves. In its basic form, a waveguide looks like a hollow, rectangular metal tube with internal dimensions that are proportional to the wavelength of the signal to be transmitted.
Waveguides have low losses and can handle high power. For transmitting high power or at high frequencies in the MW/MMW range, it is therefore often better to use waveguides rather than other transmission lines such as coaxial cables.
