An ultracapacitor – also known as a supercapacitor or electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) – blurs the line between batteries and traditional capacitors.
It can store significantly more energy than a traditional capacitor, while at the same time being able to handle higher power and having a longer service life than a battery.
A new option is the hybrid capacitor or battery capacitor. This component contains a “battery element” which increases the energy density significantly. The voltage is also higher. The disadvantage is that it is more sensitive to low temperatures and has a minimum voltage, just like regular batteries.
