A common mode choke is an important component for ensuring stable and interference-free electronics. It is used to filter out so-called common mode interference – electrical noise that occurs equally in multiple conductors at the same time and can otherwise propagate through cables and affect sensitive circuits.
The choke consists of two or more conductors wound around a common ferrite core. Thanks to this design, it can distinguish between the useful signal and unwanted noise. The normal current in the circuit passes through unhindered, while disturbances traveling in the same direction in the conductors encounter high impedance and are effectively suppressed.
Common mode chokes are used in a wide range of applications, including power supplies, data cables, motor drives, and other electronics where strong EMC performance is essential. The result is more reliable operation, reduced risk of interference, and improved overall system performance.
